Irish Film Board Funding Decisions for the Second Quarter 2017 Released
24 Aug 2017 :

Key titles and production companies receiving Production Funding include Fantastic Films receiving €750,000 and €700,000 for two projects – the first Lorcan Finnegan’s ‘Vivarium’, and the second for Neasa Hardiman’s ‘Sea Fever’;  Cartoon Saloon / Tomm Moore & Will Collins have received €750,000 for ‘Wolf Walker’; Blue Ink Films, Grand Pictures, Samson Films, Treasure, SP Films, Warrior Films, and Wide Eye Films, have all also received between €550,000 and €700,000 for their feature films.

Piranha Bar received Additional Production Funding of €50,000 for the project ‘Mya Go’, directed by Alan Foley and written by A.Foley, S. Browne and S. Morrisson, while Gerard Barrett’s Blank Page Productions received €49, 633 in Completion Funding for ‘Limbo’.

 

Development Loans

Screenplay Development

The three projects in this category all received €12, 000 in development funding. The projects and writers are ‘How To Be Black’ (Christian O’Reilly), ‘Vengeance’ (Ivan Kavanagh) and ‘Lost Souls’ (Mark Gaster).

Fiction Development

Twelve projects received funding in this category. Element Pictures received the two largest sums, with €50,000 for Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘The Grand Escape’ and €27,400 for ‘The Littlejohn Affair’ written by Marcus Fleming. Other projects in this category that received over €15,000 in funding include:

‘Papi Chulo’, John Butler (Director/Writer), Treasure Entertainment: €20,000

‘Antigone’, Marian Quinn (Director/Writer), Janey Pictures: €19,500

‘Ava’, Eoghan Kidney (Director), Fergal Rock (Writer), Fantastic Films: €19,000

‘Siberia’, Andreas Daalsgaard (Director), Glenn Montgomery (Writer), SP Films: €18,000

‘Breakfast At The New Yorker’, Neasa Hardiman (Writer/Director), Deadpan Pictures: €16,000

‘Sweetness In The Belly’, Zeresenay Mehari (Director), Laura Philips (Writer), Parallel Film Productions: €15, 450

Animation Development

Animation Development loans were awarded to nine projects, with eight of these all receiving €20,000 each:

‘Farmer Mo’ (Wiggleywoo)

‘Neenawsaurs’ (Kavaleer Productions)

‘The Slimefoots’ (Jam Media)

‘Ladybird Dot’ (Brown Bag Films)

‘Knuckle’ (Giant Animations)

‘Silly Sundays’ (Cartoon Saloon)

‘Urban Tails’ (Pink Kong Studios)

‘Rabbit & The Bandit’ (Ink & Light)

The ninth project is Wiggleywoo’s ‘Tea With The Dead’ which received €13,600.

Only one project in each of the categories ‘Documentary Development’ and International Television Drama Development – these were ‘Tukdam: A Question of Life and Death’ (Dir: Donagh Coleman, Wildfire Film & TV: €15,000) and ‘The Damned’ (Dir: Thordur Palsson, Writer: Jamie Hannigan, SP Films: €24,500) respectively. 

Distribution Funding

Written and directed by Alan Gilsenan, Subotica’s ‘Unless’ was the only project awarded Direct Distribution funding, receiving €15,000.

Five other projects received Distribution Support funding:

‘Revolutions’, Laura McGann (Director), Wildcard Distribution: €5,000

‘Sanctuary’, Len Collin (Director), Christian O’Reilly (Writer), Eclipse Pictures: €20,000

‘Halal Daddy’, Conor McDermottroe (Director/Writer), Element Distribution: €32,000

‘The Delinquent Season’, Mark O’Rowe (Director/Writer), Element Distribution: €50,000
