11 Mar 2010 Q&A With Special Effects Make-Up Artist Rick Baker
Special effects make-up artist Rick Baker has been creating monsters of the friendly and scary variety for over 30 years. The multi Oscar winner is behind such film creatures as the Grinch, Gremlins, Wolfman and the zombies in both Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ and those of ‘Men in Black’ to name just a few. As part of a new Masters Series of interviews, IFTN caught up with the makeup maestro to ask him about his inspirations, his favourite creatures and the battle of make-up versus CGI. more

In the run up to the 82nd Academy Awards the official Oscars website includes a section where nominees, including our James Flynn (The Door), Tomm Moore (The Secret of Kells) and Darragh O’Connell and Nicky Phelan (Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty) have been asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding their road to being an Oscar nominee. more

04 Mar 2010 ‘Ondine’ Casts Net On Irish Cinemas
The Irish Film and Television Awards saw Neil Jordan’s ‘Ondine’ walk away with four IFTAs - Actor Colin Farrell, Supporting Actress Dervla Kirwan, Production Designer Anna Rackard and Sound for Brendan Deasy, Sarah Gaines and Tom Johnson. The film receives its general theatrical release on Friday, March 5th, an occasion IFTN marks with a Q&A session with the film’s acclaimed Irish writer and director, Neil Jordan. more

04 Mar 2010 HBO Greenlights Northern Ireland Epic ‘Game of Thrones’
HBO has given the green light to a pilot and nine episodes of George R.R. Martin’s epic ‘Game of Thrones’. The shoot of what is expected to be the biggest television series ever filmed in Europe will commence in June in Northern Ireland and will see the return of stars including Sean Bean, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Lena Headey. more

03 Mar 2010 Producers Sought for FÁS STI / Magic Light Placement Programme
FÁS Screen Training Ireland has teamed up with The Magic Light Producer Placement Programme in the UK to guarantee one place for a producer whose work benefits the Republic of Ireland’s film industry. The five month course, for which applications are currently being sought, is intended to provide up-and-coming film producers with insight into the working operations and business realities of the film market. more

Sir Roger Moore, best known for his iconic role as James Bond, is to make his first on-screen feature film appearance in nearly 10 years in Causeway Pictures’ romantic comedy ‘Connemara Days’ which will film this summer in Cong, Co. Mayo and Northern Ireland. more

Grand Pictures have announced details of two new projects - a feature film co-production with Bavaria Pictures entitled ‘Death of a Superhero’, and a new six part TV series ‘Trivia’ with RTÉ and funded by the BAI Sound and Vision Fund. more

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has announced that it is to make funding of up to €25.5m available for the production of new television and radio programmes over the next two years through Sound & Vision II – a Broadcasting Funding Scheme. more

12 Feb 2010 Athena Media Production of ‘Pat Falvey’ Peaks
Production is currently underway on Athena Media’s latest project, a documentary entitled ‘Pat Falvey: My Private Everest’. The documentary will centres around the life of Pat Falvey, an Irish man who against the odds has climbed Mount Everest four times. more

11 Feb 2010 Animation Chiefs Call for Increase in RTÉ Funding
The Animation CEO Forum, an Animation Ireland body that brings together CEOs from the leading Irish animation companies to discuss industry issues, has criticised Irish public broadcaster RTÉ saying they are failing to support, develop and fund the Animation sector in Ireland. more

09 Feb 2010 Victoria Smurfit to Host 2010 IFTA Ceremony
It has been announced that Irish actress Victoria Smurfit will host the 7th Annual Irish Film and Television Awards.
