EDN Online Pitching Call for Projects |

The new thematic pitching format is based on an online video conference, where a selected number documentary projects are introduced. For the first session EDN is calling for documentary projects with a cross platform potential. The deadline for receipt of entries is September 15th. |

NI Viewing Levels Up 5% in Ofcom Report |
| 24 Aug 2010 | On 20 August, Ofcom published its seventh annual Communications Market report. In relation to Northern Ireland, the report says whilst average viewing levels have increased there by 5% since last year, NI audiences still watch less TV than the UK average. The report further found that UK channels contributed towards the first ever annual fall in the number of UK television channels. |

Global Following Grows For TG4 Website |

The site’s webmaster, Peadar Ó Flatharta tells us that the site has garnered a dedicated following, growing slowly but surely in popularity. “In 2006 we had about 40,000 – 60,000 streams a month and this figure has since grown to about a quarter of a million” |

Eurotek Assists Tapeless Upgrade at Colaiste Dhulaigh |

Based in Dublin, Colaiste Dhulaigh College of Further Education has recently purchased seven GY-HM100 and two GY-HM700 camcorders for use in their three-year Communication and Media Production course. |

RTÉ Building €70 million Digital Network |
| 16 Aug 2010 | A new €70 million digital network is to be built by RTÉ, the move will include the introduction of a new satellite service. The introduction of the network will further mean that RTÉ and TG4 will be available on all-Island basis for first time and it will allow for broadband spectrum to be freed up. |

BAI Announces New DTT Introduction Plans |
| 11 Aug 2010 | The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI) has repeated its displeasure that its chosen groups have failed to work together in the orchestration of bringing commercial Digital Terestial Television (DTT) to Ireland. The group has thus decided not to reactivate a commercial DTT multiplex licensing process until after the Analogue Switch Off (ASO). RTÉ has selected MHEG as the interactive middleware for the rollout of its national DTT service. |

Work Begins on National Film School Building |

The project, which has been awarded €5 million by Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan TD, will see the building of Ireland's first HD television studio.
