Ballyfermot College of Further Education will be represented by four of its graduates at the 82nd Academy Awards, held in Hollywood’s Kodak Theatre on Sunday, March 7th. The annual awards ceremony sees nominations for the animation skills of former Ballyfermot College graduates Tomm Moore for ‘The Secret of Kells’; Darragh O’Connell and Nicky Phelan for their short ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ and Richard Baneham for ‘Avatar’. more

‘Hotel Darklight’ is to receive an IFI screening on December 13th. The feature film is the result of a DIY project that ran as part of this year’s Darklight Festival where filmmakers were asked to submit ideas for a 3 - 7 minute short film set in a mysterious Dublin hotel with a twilight zone-esque atmosphere. more

The Audiovisual Federation, the IBEC group that represents the feature film, television and animation sectors, has launched its 2009 review of film and television production in Ireland. In 2008, 266 audiovisual productions were completed in Ireland, with a total production value of €246.8 million - this was a significant increase on 2007 (€195.7 million). more
