Second to None’ in Irish line-up for Palm Springs International ShortFest
12 Jun 2017 : Katie McNeice
The IFTA-winning animation from Vincent Gallagher is one of three projects nominated in the festival, which runs from June 20th-26th and is set to screen over 320 short films from over 100 countries.

‘Second to None’ went to the Tribeca Film Festival in April this year, having previously screened at TIFF in September last year. Gallagher is currently developing a feature version of his live action short ‘Love is a Sting’ with Oscar-winner Ben Cleary and Fail Safe Films.

The stop motion project sees Frederick Butterfield consumed with jealousy when his twin brother Herman becomes the world’s oldest man.

Other Irish titles heading to ShortFest are the IFTA-nominated ‘The Lost Letter’ from Kealan O’Rourke, featuring the vocal talents of Kate Winslet. It follows a young boy preparing for Christmas, as he confronts the one lady who doesn't want the holiday to come at all, and discovers the truth behind her lack of Christmas spirit. ‘The Lost Letter’ is produced by Brian Willis and Stephen Smith of Trickshot Films.

Finally ‘The Nation Holds its Breath’ from Kev Cahill stars Sam Keely (The Siege of Jadotville) as a young father who is torn between witnessing the miracles of childbirth and or the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Joey Horvitz, Rebecca O'Flanagan and Rob Walpole produce the title.
