The National Film School (NFS) at IADT in Dun Laoghaire is well represented at the 2008 Corona Cork Film Festival, which begins this Sunday, 12th October. Almost forty per cent of the selected entries in the Irish Short Film Competition were made by NFS/IADT students, graduates or staff. more

The film makers of this year's BIFF's award winners - 'Eden' (Best Film), 'At Home With the Clearys' (Best Documentary), 'The Basket Case' (Best Short Fiction); Bob Quinn’s 'Vox Humana (notes for a small opera)' (Director’s Choice Award), and John Boorman (Excellence Award) will all be on hand in Boston to introduce their films and answer questions from audiences. more

The Arts Council has launched Reel Art, a scheme designed to provide three film makers with an opportunity to make documentaries with an artistic theme. Successful titles will be made for theatrical screenings as well as screening at the Dublin International Film Festival in February 2010. more

Irish director John Crowley's (Intermission) ‘Boy A’ picked up four awards at the 19th Festival du Film Britannique de Dinard at the weekend including the Grand Prix Jury, the Hitchcock d'Or and the Grand Marnier award which scriptwriter Mark O’Rowe (Intermission) picked up for Best Screenplay. The Hearbeat Award went to Steve McQueen's ‘Hunger’. more

The trailer for ‘Hunger’ is available online. Due to open on 31st October in Ireland, the film is being released by Pathe (Eclipse Pictures in the Republic). The film premieres in Belfast on 16th October, and will also screen at the Corona Cork International Film Festival. more
