Sea
The Sea Cat provides the fastest crossing to Northern Ireland from Stranrear in Scotland to Belfast, sailing 5 times a day and taking 90 minutes. A Liverpool to Belfast service runs every second day with Norse Irish Ferries. Stena Sealink and P&O Ferries operate ferries to Larne from Stranrear and Cairnryan, taking up to 140 minutes and sailing 10 to 15 times daily.

RURAL
Countryside
Fermanagh’s calm countryside is covered in fresh woodland which surrounds the great Erne Lakes.
The Ulster Way
The Ulster Way walking trail passes through the Ballintempo Forest and Cuilcagh Mountains.
Castle Archdale Country Park
This lakeside park has rare wildlife and a butterfly farm set within a forest. The park also has a marina.
Crom Estate, Newtownbutler
This National Trust property is on the shores of Upper Lough Erne. It’s 1900 acres of woodland and wetland offers a fine variety of wildlife.
Castle Caldwell Forest
A wildlife conservation boasting a fine variety of birdlife.
Lough Navar Forest Drive
This wooded drive has viewpoints overlooking Lough Erne and the cliffs of Magho.
COASTAL
Lough Erne
Lough Erne is the great attraction of County Fermanagh with great fishing and water-based activities.
Lower Lough Erne
Scattered with islands the lower lake can be quite rough. Devenish Island boasts ruins of a large monastic settlement with three churches and a round tower. The island can be reached by ferry. White Island has a ruined abbey with fascinating carvings.
Upper Lough Erne
The upper lough is calmer with vast wetlands.
HISTORICAL
Enniskillen Castle
This 15th century castle has a twin-turreted tower which fronts onto the river.
Florence Court
A three-storey Palladian mansion, Florence Court was built in 1764 is noted for its exquisite interior.
Castle Coole
Located close to Enniskillen town, this 18th century Palladian stately house has a lavish interior and is situated within attractive gardens.
Monea Castle
This 17th century Planter’s castle is now in ruins. With distinctive towers it is the finest-preserved Plantation castle in the county.
Tully Castle
Situated by the lakeside, this fortified Plantation house is adjacent to a herb garden.
Bishop’s Stone, Killadeas
This early Christian relic has both pagan and Christian features
Janus Figure, Boa Island
Situated in a Christian burial ground this yellow stone figure evokes the duality of god-hero and fertility.
Marble Arch Caves
This series of caverns and passages is the greatest cave system in Ulster. The tour contains a boat trip along an underground river.
URBAN
Enniskillen
The county town is located on an island at the meeting point of the Upper and Lower Erne Loughs. There is an airport for light aircraft close to the town. Enniskillen is Victorian in style and full of British influence.
Belleek
This border village is famous for its pottery founded in 1857. This fragile china is mostly produced for export to America. |
