The young talent who was cast in the role last year leads the cast as Anne Shirley, the little orphaned girl whose big personality takes centre stage in the 1890s drama.
Anne injects life into the lives of aging siblings Marilla and Matthew Cubert, to whom she is accidentally sent. They are played by R.H. Thomson and Geraldine James.
‘Anne of Green Gables’ is a Northwood Entertainment production for CBC and Netflix, and marks yet another major breakout role for a young Irish star on the streaming platform. Just the month ‘The OA’ actor Patrick Gibson received the IFTA Rising Star Award, the nomination no less inspired by his portrayal of troubled Steve Winchell.
Showrunners have described the show themes as timeless, with topics such as identity, feminism, bullying and prejudice playing a part in her adventures and relationships. It has been adapted from the original novel of Lucy Maud Montgomery by three-time Emmy winner Moira Walley-Beckett (Breaking Bad).
The series was filmed on Prince Edward Island, Canada from September 2016 and will release on Netflix on Friday, May 12th.
