RTÉ Global’s Award-Winning ‘Somebody to Love’ Sells in Europe
22 Jul 2014 | RTÉ GLOBAL has licensed ‘Somebody to Love’, Wildfire Films’ candid documentary about the romantic lives of the disabled, to YLE Finland, TV4 Sweden, Channel 8 Israel and Indigenius for RTVE Spain. The announcement was made by Edel Edwards, head of programme sales for the Irish public broadcaster’s newly rebranded television sales arm.

‘GOLD’ to Hit Irish Cinemas This Autumn
17 Jul 2014 | IFTA winning Niall Heery’s latest film GOLD which stars Screen International’s ‘Star of Tomorrow’ Maisie Williams (‘Game of Thrones’), David Wilmot (‘Calvary’), Kerry Condon (‘The Runway’) and James Nesbitt (‘The Hobbit’) will be released in Irish cinemas this autumn. Wildcard Picks Up Number of Titles
11 Jul 2014 | Irish firm Wildcard Distribution has picked up a bundle of titles including Galway Film Fleadh features ‘Gold’ and ‘Get Up and Go’ (as previously reported on IFTN). Deals have also been confirmed for rom-com ‘Standby’ starring Brian Gleeson and and most recently, Ian Power’s ‘The Guarantee’.

Based on the Japanese novel ‘In Love with the Dead’ by Kei Oshi, the feature follows a lonely young man who becomes obsessed with death and tries to understand life by coming closer to death.

12 Jun 2014 | ‘The Food Guide to Love’ is a romantic comedy directed by Dominic Harari and Teresa de Pelegri, who were also the team behind Spanish rom coms ‘Only Human’ and ‘Unconscious’. Set and filmed in Dublin, the feature follows the relationship that develops between an Irish food writer and Spanish woman. It will receive its highly anticipated release in Irish cinemas tomorrow, June 13th.

‘Sing Street’ Secures Further Deals
30 May 2014 | As IFTN previously reported, ‘Sing Street’, the latest from ‘Once’ director-writer John Carney, was acquired for distribution in the US via a deal between sales company WME and Weinstein. It has since been confirmed that FilmNation, the firm responsible for international sales of the feature, has come close to selling out the feature after a very successful market at Cannes.

‘Dracula Untold’ to be Released Globally through Imax
28 May 2014 | The giant screen exhibitor Imax has signed a deal with production companies Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures to digitally re-master ‘Dracula Untold’, the latest origins film on the world’s most famous vampire. Universal and Legendary Pictures have scheduled the film to be released in giant screen theatres from October 2nd 2014. Imax will screen the film on North American screens from October 17th.

NITV To Distribute Rankin Film Productions Shorts Internationally
20 May 2014 | NITV have announced that they have agreed on a deal with the London-based production company Rankin Film Productions (RFP) that started in 2011 as the Collabor8te scheme. Initially eight projects from writers, and writer/directors in both the UK and Ireland were selected and given production finance. These titles have now reached the end of their run on the international festival circuit, some of them, like the animated short ‘The Hungry Corpse’, with considerable success. NITV will now be handling these films for international distribution to TV and VOD platforms worldwide.

Irish Titles Sell, Sell, Sell at Cannes
19 May 2014 | Having begun last Wednesday on the 14th of May and continuing until this Sunday the 25th of May, this year’s Cannes Film Festival has already seen several international distribution deals for film titles from around the globe. The annual Marché du film is one of the most important markets for the film industry, allowing for the establishment of such deals and significant contacts. Irish film has always had a presence in the market and the number of international deals established in the past week has made the industry felt more than ever in the field of global film distribution.

FilmNation Boards Lenny Abrahamson’s ‘Room’
12 May 2014 | Ahead of competition from the Cannes Film Festival, FilmNation Entertainment has acquired international rights for ‘Room’, Lenny Abrahamson’s next feature. The film is based on the Emma Donoghue novel of the same name, which was a finalist for the Man Booker and Orange prizes and has sold more than two million copies worldwide. Donoghue wrote the novel and will also write the adapted screenplay.
